Working with a Rabbi and Preparing for the Beit Din

Choosing a rabbi to prepare for conversion and working with a Beit Din (Rabbinical Court) are critical decisions in your process that can often be mystifying. Below are some resources to get you started. If you have specific questions about working with a rabbi or Beit Din, please e-mail us at .

Converting in the United States

The largest Orthodox Beit Din conversion network in the United States is run by the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA). Their excellent web site – www.judaismconversion.org, contains helpful information about conversion, contact information for each of the RCA’s regional Batei Din, and a book list and other conversion resources.

Converting in Israel

The conversion process in Israel is administered by the government primarily through the office of the Chief Rabbi. The process is designed primarily for Israeli citizens, although non-citizens may avail themselves of the process in certain situations. ITIM is an Israel organization that helps navigate the Israeli process of conversion, marriage and other Jewish lifecycle events. Please visit their comprehensive web site, which contains detailed information about the Israeli conversion process (much of which can also be helpful to people converting outside of Israel), and many other pivotal Jewish lifecycle events.
